Apologies for Hidalgo
I didn't have anything to do
with the movie Hidalgo, but I keep feeling like somebody should
apologize to Muslims. I was embarrassed by the film.
I'm used to Christians being
portrayed as evil from hollywood, so it didn't shock me when the only
Christian represented in the movie was a murderous woman, trying to
seduce her victim before killing him. But the disrespect that was
given the Muslim beliefs in Hidalgo was unnecessary as well. Contrary to
popular beliefs, Muslim women are not eager to throw off their veils
in efforts to seduce every American man that comes along. Nor is she a
western feminist aching to compete with men. And their fathers are not
all hypocrites showing two opposite characters, acting like westerners
behind closed doors while acting like Muslims in the open. It seemed
like all the Muslim characters in Hidalgo were either evil or idiots
in need of saving by our hero.
The main focus of my own website is an objection to teaching children
Islamic beliefs as fact in public school. Obvious attempts are made in
textbooks to glorify Islam while demonizing Christianity. But if
Hidalgo is any indication of the direction hollywood is now taking,
the goal is demonizing Christianity
and Islam while flooding our movie screens with sex and
violence. With the activities of hollywood these days, I'd like to
carefully study "McCarthyism" and the witch hunts of communists that
went on in hollywood. Everyone assumes by hollywood's portrayal of
that era, that McCarthyism was evil, but maybe the McCarthyists were
on to something. Because as hollywood continues unchecked, it's clear
the intent IS the destruction of America. I don't know enough about
what happened, so I can't say. But I do know the fruit of hollywood
reeks to high heaven. The amazing success of The Passion of Christ
proved there is a huge audience for Godly films, and how sick many of
us are of hollywood and its dark, twisted spirit.
Again, I apologize to Muslims, not all Americans were thrilled with
Hidalgo. The insults were uncalled for, even if Viggo Mortensen is one
of my favorite actors.
